That was Spring Break?

Mar 21, 2011   //   by Ruiz   //   life  //  No Comments

So this past week, I spent my Spring Break in Killeen. It went by so fast and it didn’t really feel like a break. Before the break started, the game plan was to focus primarily on work and schoolwork. Unfortunately, everything didn’t seem to go as planned. At the same time, a few upsets were thrown into the mix. Let’s sum it all up.

The Good

Being able to see old Killeen buddies throughout the week was probably the best thing about my break. I’m glad that I was able to catch up with people like Raymond and Matt, who stay in San Antonio and Houston respectively. Not only them, but also Jasmin, Green, Ana, Dustin, Thomas, Devo, Krystle, co-workers, and the Killeen Town Brawlers crew. It was great to see all of them again. Since my life seems to revolve around friends at College Station these days, seeing all of them was like taking a small peek into a time capsule. It’s also great to be around my mother as well as my sister Eunice. I’m not a confident Korean speaker, but I tend to speak more Korean when I’m around my mother these days. She constantly spends her time studying English pronunciation, I should at least do the same for her native language. Throughout the past few summers, I’ve tried to commit time to become fluent in Korean and failed every single time. I want to try and make it work this summer. Being close to mom makes me want to try to become more fluent in Korean by Fall 2011.

I also worked close to 40 hours at Geek Squad during the break. The workload was really insane and it looked like they could really use the help. I’m just glad that I was there to do so. Managers constantly kept thanking me for helping the store, but should they really be? I’m a full-time college student who is able to focus all of my time on studies without having to work. At any period of time, I am able to return home and work as if I had never left. And it’s not even a bad job either. I repair computers and make a decent wage. How many students even have that kind of power and flexibility? Not many. The managers shouldn’t be thanking me, I should be thanking them. My employment with the Killeen Best Buy alone is enough to be thankful for. It really helped make a difference while living in College Station, and I don’t even need to work for their location either.

Starting school with Sarah Palin and a Facebook album

Aug 30, 2008   //   by Ruiz   //   life, photos  //  No Comments

palin Okay, so for most of us, the first week of school started. Some people are saying that it rocks, others are already getting tired of it. What about me though? Also, Sarah Palin has been picked by John McCain as his vice-presidential nominee for the 2008 election. Sounds great, but why are people scratching their heads over this? Could there be some kind of motive behind McCain?

So, a week of CTC has passed, and I have to say it’s whatever. The classes are easy, and I have more than enough time to do homework. It’s just like high school minus three days a week. Other than it being so easy, it’s just so boring. Most of the people are twice my age and it’s so akward. The teachers are boring for the most part too. I have an algebra teacher who cracks semi-funny jokes, a history teacer who can make you sleep without trying, an english teacher who sounds like the beaver from Winnie the Pooh, and a speech teacher who’s actually pretty… cool. He reminds me of my favorite grade school teacher, Ms. Meghan motha-effin Tully, who by the way is the freakin awesomest and can never be beat by any other teacher! The only thing is, she’s no longer teaching at KHS. And as far as I know, she’s gone back to Cali to get married, I think? Sigh… I’m going to miss her so much. After my noona (sister in Korean) left me to go do great things, Ms. Tully helped me get through my second half of high school. Simply put, she’s motha-effin awesome. Alright, anyways, back on topic. Other than that, CTC is bleh. My classes are only on Mondays and Wednesdays, so I don’t have to be there until Wednesday of next week because of labor day. Yipee, lol. But really though, I know I’m missing out elsewhere. I could’ve been doing bigger things right now. I really need to take my SAT one last time and apply to Aggieland ASAP. Man, as much as I want to leave this dump now, I know I have to stay for personal reasons. One more year just can’t seem to come soon enough. rrrgh.

mccain_palin In other unrelated news of politics (which 99.9% of us don’t even care about), we all know that John McCain has picked Sarah Palin to be his vice-presidential nominee for the 2008 election. It’s not a real shocker, but it has a bunch of folks saying “wtf” just because she has a vagina, which vice-presidents usually don’t have. You would assume that Mr. McCain would have some kind legitimate reason for picking her, right? Well not really. You can believe all the stuff the McCain campaign says about her being “a tough executive who has demonstrated that she is ready to be president” (which in my mind I do not doubt even for a second), but when it all boils down, you can’t escape the fact that McCain didn’t even know Palin before he even picked her! Great! Now people are going to claim that this decision was all for show! Okay, I’m not one to question the man’s decision, but when you think about it, there’s actually better candidates out there that have proven themselves as far more suited for this position. And unlike Palin, they didn’t need a vagina to prove it. Nonetheless, this isn’t a bad decision. Something like this could actually be a good thing. If you think about it, Palin does have the potential to pull away Hillary voters that don’t like Obama, which is NOT a low number of people. Not only that, but this whole thing officially makes Palin the first ever V-PILF, which sxephil describes as a “Vice-President I’d like to…”

ANYWAYS, I turned on my camera for the first time in about two weeks and found out that I forgot to import a few good pictures I took of friends over the summer. These were just random events, such as midnight bowling, eating out, opening a new Circuit City store, chillin’ with Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, and playing board games together until five in the morning. So check it out. Trust me, there’s something there that will either make you laugh or shake your head in disgust.
