I have two final exams tomorrow. Like any other student, I’m stressed out about them. But alas, I simply know what I know. Hopefully it’ll be enough. I should be sleeping soon, but I did a little bit of spring cleaning on my desktop and took a snapshot for archiving purposes. Goodnight.

As of recently I’ve begun to start using a virtual machine to code C++ in a Linux environment. It’s exciting, but frustrating at the same time. Probably more frustrating to be honest. I’ve been a dedicated Windows power user since day one, which explains my complete lack of Linux knowledge. I’m not really used to all of the sudo, chmod, repository lingo just yet, but it’s great to learn. The Ubuntu virtual machine I’m using is powered by VirtualBox and it’s pretty darn stable and feature-rich. As far as system resources go, the ratio between host (Windows) and guest (Ubuntu) is 6:2 for CPU cores and 10:6 for GB of RAM. I might be giving Ubuntu more resources than it needs, but Windows can’t use it all anyways, so it doesn’t matter. I hope to be learning more in the coming months. Soon, I’ll probably be using a little bit of wget magic just like Zuckerberg did in The Social Network.

Gotta break out emacs and modify that perl script, son.

I’ve always been an enthusiast of the desktop workstation. I believe that a good, clean workspace is the key to staying organized and productive with your computer. Over the years, my workstations have always been changing dramatically. Themes, wallpapers, icons, widgets, you name it. I’ve probably had more changes with workstations than females have had with their nails. And I know females… with their nails. Since my desktop environment changes pretty often, I decided to take periodic snapshots to see how it changes and evolves over time. I have a few virtual machines also, but they’re used primarily used for testing code and running specific tasks, so their desktop environment isn’t important to me. I know that I may be nine years late starting this, but at least I can start today and see where it goes tomorrow.

My desktop is a dual-screen setup consisting of 1360 x 768 and 1024 x 768 resolutions. Tiny resolutions, sure, but it’s sufficient enough for what I do on it. Regardless, I make the most of what I have. Whenever I upgrade my monitors in the future, they will both be done at the same time. It will be undoubtedly be costly, so it’ll have to wait another time. The wallpaper is a gorgeous creation from Raindropmemory, a talented artist from Thailand. I have been using his wallpapers for the past few months and I love the influence that it creates. I have yet to find another style as unique as his that steps away from the typical “anime” style norm that plagues Asian artists these days. Until then, his work is here to stay. Looks a bit girly, yes? Well I like girls, so if anything, I can use that as a lame excuse. The HTC Home widget is an extremely nice widget that does a great job of mimicking the HTC Sense clock widget found on Android devices. Simple, yet fully functional and aesthetically designed. Taksbar icons aren’t organized in order of importance, but rather type. System-oriented tasks such as Remote Desktop and virtual machines, all the way to coding related applications such as Notepad++ and VisualStudio. There’s almost never a time that I don’t have Pandora One Desktop running. That stuff is like delicious butter to my ears.
